Not only do these two works differ in the time period they were created – Frau mit blauer Kugel was choreographed in 1987 and jetzt premiered on the 28th of November 2009 – but also in the way they were created: In Frau mit blauer Kugel the music and the subject are the basis for the dance. In Jetzt, a piece in three parts, the movement and the personality of the two dancers are the starting-points for the creation. The music came later.

This work brings together a mixture of the past and the present. In the first part of the evening Ilana Reynolds performs Frau mit blauer Kugel, created in 1987. It is one of the most important pieces in Christine Brunel's career. She has performed it worldwide with great success. It premiered at the Next Wave Festival at the Brooklyn Academy, New York in 1989. The reconstruction for the young dancer shows that this solo is a timeless piece full of power and expression.

The second part of the evening is Jetzt, a duet for Tsui-Shuang Lai and Ilana Reynolds accompanied by E-Bass player Diego Velásquez Fuica, who composed parts of the musical score. The choreography is created and inspired by the personality of both dancers along with a rich investigation of movements. Christine Brunel creates a series of vingettes ranging from moments of light tenderness to moments of brut force and strength, resulting in a complete tableau filled with beauty and simplicity.

The press wrote:

Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, December 2009
The danced now
"(...) Brunel reveals herself as a mature choreographer capable of creating expressiveness with very few means. The subtle notes, limited to a few sound patterns, and percussion rhythms played live by e-bass player Diego Velàsquez-Fuica are as important or unimportant to the dance as the space itself in which Tsui-Shuang Lai and Ilana Reynolds go through their routines. Over long periods of time the dancers move in complete silence. Pacing in slow motion, quick bows, leaping, stretching, and many animal-like crawling elements on the floor form the essence of this three-part dance. Christine Brunel's choreographies have gained in suspense, expressiveness and atmosphere."
